    Default New R4 Question

Hey um, i just bought a new R4 for my DS Lite, and i was wondering, you have to initially set up the card and put all the files and folders and stuff, but i want to ask if i have the right stuff files on there:

    <File Structure> (ms0=micro sd card)

    ms0/_system_ <folder

    moonshl <folder

    _DS_MENU.DAT <not a folder, a DAT file

    _DS_MSHL.NDS <not a folder, a NDS file

Is that the needed files for it to run correctly? If not, could someone help me out?

I used to have an R4, but i wasnt the one to set it up, plus i lost it half a year ago.

Yes that is the correct setup. That is how my files are structured.

Okay so if i want to put games on there, do i make a new folder and call it ROM, or GAME or something? also, where do i put vids an music? i know how to convert the vid to the right format, but where do i put it?

And one last thing, does R4 support 256 MB or 64 MB Sd's? Or do they at least have to be 1 GB?

Yeah, you can name the folder anything you want where you are going to put your roms. Mine is named NDSRoms, then I have GBARoms, GBASaves, etc, etc. I have the EZ Flash 3 in 1 for my NDS Lite also so it needs the extra folders on my SD card. You should also check out YSMenu for R4, look for someones upload that already has YSMenu integrated with Firmware version 1.18. It'll help you with a few of the new piracy checks on some of the new games.

Edit: You can name the folder for your music and videos anything you want also, it's gonna show up on your root menu when you boot up either the R4 menu or the moonshell menu. You need to make sure you convert your videos to DPG format, the movies anyways, it makes them a lot smaller and they run smoother. You can download DPGconverter, just google it. Also are you running moonshell2 stable? It has got a way better GUI and is more stable, hence the name

Yes i know that i have to convert to DPG, i use DVDFab to do that. What about the SD Card? Can it be a 64/256 MB and still work? And why cant they just make things easy and make Moonshell support MP4?

Lol i see what you mean about moonshell. But yes i agree with D247, Look for YSMenu, its like a custom OS for R4 (Its designed for DSTT But still...) it also, as D247 Says, gets rid of the stupid piracy checks in some new games, mainly Mario and luigi: bowsers inside story.

Does Final Fantasy IV work without the piracy stuff? I just "Obtained" the game and i played it for a while on no$gba, it worked perfect.

As far as i can tell the Piracy stuff works on a basis of whether something is "present" or not, for example, Copy-Protection software Like secuROM (Used on some CD/DVD Based games) use on some games use corrupted sectors that CD/DVD-ROM Drives cannot copy, so im assuming the Anti-Piracy on cartridges works in the same sort of way, the game loads and when it reaches a point where the check takes place it checks to see if something is present or not, if not, the game malfunctions, or a message could appear (Super Mario ALLSTARS for the NES does a message), or the developer may have done it so the game goes in a different way, a loop perhaps or a never ending battle.

But to finally answer your question lol :P

I "Obtained" this game a few moments ago and it seems to work without a hitch, but im using an Acekard 2i and i hear it auto-patches some games so as far as i can tell it works. I no longer own my R4 as i sold it, but i remember quite a bit about it, the game should work for you.

FF VI works fine with no piracy checks, same with I, II, and III. The smallest SD card I used with it was 128MB it worked fine, but most of the good games are at least 64MB, the FF are small though I think. Check out romulation.net for ro...I mean forums for NDS stuff also, it's a good site.

Yeah, final fantasy IV is about 130 MB, so i could fit it inside my 256 MB card. Also, i bought the R4 from ctrlgames.com, is that safe?
