Include your firmware version, PSP model, other enabled plugins, any extraordinary files, and as much details as you can give on reproducing it.*

Firmware 6.20 upcoming in Japan

Image: http://i50.tinypic.com/ajwccp.jpg

As Sony just released firmware 3.10 for the PS3, they just announced that firmware 6.20 for the PSP is going live tomorrow, in Japan, that is. No release date has been set for the remaining regions.

This update is a bit better then the standard "improved security" changelog.
6.20 adds another column to the XMB for the comic service which was announced at the Tokyo Game Show earlier this year.

Even though the update is going online tomorrow, comics wont be in for downloading until December 10th. The price is set to 4.70$ for a whole comic book, and within a range from 0.50$ to 1.70$ for one chapter only.

*Update:*
The firmware is now out for download in the Japan region. Here's the full changelog.

---Quote---
• The importing of playlists from the Media Go application is now supported under [Video].
• The importing of playlists from the PlayStation 3 system or the Media Go application is now supported under [Photo].
• The [TV] category has been integrated into the new [Extras] category in the XMB menu. Compatible models: PSP-2000, PSP-2005, PSP-3000, PSP-N1000, PSP-N1005
---End Quote---

*Side Effects
*
* Loss of PSN if you're on Custom Firmware.

Image: http://img2.pspgen.com/icon0-503gen-b-copier_0090005200328525.png

Custom Firmware 5.03GEN-B for HEN (PSP-3000) is finally available thanks to PSPGEN. They did not succeed in achieving all our initial objectives but essence is except, it arrives and makes it possible to play with plays 5.55+ and protected.

They finally arrived here at the setting on line of Custom Firmware 5.03GEN-B for HEN (PSP-3000) and they are happy that you are also numerous to want to test it.

For recall, Custom Firmware 5.03GEN-B is intended for the PSP-3000 and PSP-2000v3 which are in official firmware 5.03 at the most. Thanks to ChikHEN R2 de Davee, it is possible to launch our Custom Firmware 5.03GEN-A (and soon B) to benefit from the advantages of the underground.

The essential innovation of the 5.03GEN-B is the support of the plays requiring a firmware higher than the 5.03, including the plays protected from Custom firmwares (Evangelion, Full Metal Alchemist…). Yoshihiro with worked good and succeeded in adapting this possibility drawn from Custom Firmware 5.50GEN-D2 on the 5.03GEN.

However, they did not reach 100% of our objectives and certain things are not yet perfect unfortunately.

*Features*

Recall of the essential functions:

    * COMPATIBLE with the PSP-3000 and PSP-2000 v3 in official firmware 5.03
    * Reading of the backups of plays PSP requiring a firmware higher than the 5.03, including the 6.xx
    * Reading of the UMD requiring a firmware higher than the 5.03, including the 6.xx
    * Reading of the UMD/ISO of plays protected from Custom firmwares.
    * Reading of plays PS1
    * GEN VSH FINELY available (SELECT touches)
    * Recovery in VSH available
    * Reading of Homebrews
    * etc
*Known Bugs*
    * The demonstration of MGS refuses to launch out
They tested and what goes in the 5.50GEN-D2, did not function in the 5.03GEN-B. Too bad…

    * The menu of the Recovery mode “is mixed”
The RECOVERY MODE of the 5.02GEN-A was patché to turn on the PSP-3000. It makes it possible to modify the majority of the usual options but they encounter some problems with this Recovery in VSH and they did not succeed in correcting it. In fact, the menu sees some of its lines not correctly allotted and others which do not function. Note that on a PSP-3000, the recovery is not used for nothing, or almost, since all the useful functions are in the VSH Menu or in small Ultimate VSH of Total_Noob de Total_Noob that they strongly advise you to install.

Here options of the Recovery and their equivalents:

      - Togle USB = OK
      - Configuration = ok
           - Sony Skip: do not go (useless thus not engraves)
           - Hide corrupt let us icons = walk not and activates Skip Sony logo
           - range folder HB ok
           - autorun EBOOT ok
           - fake area ok
           - vsh finely ok uses
           - XMB USB Device ok
           - Load device with usb ok
           - M33 network update ok Uses
           - version TXT ok uses
           - hide MAC ok
      - Range categories = ok Uses
      - Reboot in official firmware > nonfunctional
      - Run program At = Finely advanced
      - advanced = CPU SPEED
      - CPU SPEED = Plugins
      - Plugins = registry hack
      - Registry hack = suspends device
      - Device = reboot in official firmware Suspends
      - Reset system = quit

To be ready for the use of our Custom firmware 5.03GEN-B, it is necessary to have:

    * A PSP-3000 with a firmware 5.03 official. Beyond 5.03 there is no possible solutions.
    * To have ChickHEN R2 installed on your Memory Stick and to know to launch it

*Recall:*

The HEN is Homebrew Enabler. It still allows the launching of the homebrews on a PSP in Officiel firmware. That of Davee uses two faults to be able to be used: that of Matiaz and another that it found and which makes it possible to activate Kernel Mode and thus to reach the functions touching with the hardware of console (WiFi, UMD, etc…). It is thanks to him that our Custom firmware 5.03GEN-B can launch out.

*How to start again Custom Firmware 5.03GEN-B for HEN if my console rebooté or is extinct?*

Custom Firmware 5.03GEN-B for HEN is a truth Custom Firmware but the PSP-3000 (and PSP-2000v3) cannot launch, with lighting, a modified firmware. It is thus necessary to pass by the chickHEN R2 of davee, then to launch the program 5.03GEN-B quick updater to even activate Custom Firmware him. Launching will be immediate and without intervention to make your share after having launched 5.03GEN-B quick updater.

*How To reinstall the 5.03GEN if ever you had a doubt:*

If the 5.03GEN-B is already installed, the program launches it without proposing an option of installation again (logical and practical). If ever, for a reason or a autren vious want to reinstall it of force, maintain supported the trigger tips_left_small with the starting of the 5.03GEN-B quick updater

This plugin allows you to categorize your games/homebrew. It comes with three modes, a mode which makes a context menu pop up each time you open your Game Menu and lets you choose the category, a mode which displays multiple memory stick icons, one for each category, and finally a complete replacement for the Game menu based on the Photo modules.

*- Added new mode, 'Content Browser':*

Image: http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/6944/socomftb3logo.jpg

SOCOM fans will surely not want to hear this news.
The long awaited PSP title will be released on January 12 2010, instead of the planned release date: November 4, 2009.
The development is going as planned. The game looks and plays great. They moved the release date back to "allow time to get the word out to everyone".

On the brighter side of things, Sony says during the time period until release, we'll be seeing "a lot more of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3".

The 8th revision of Bubbletune's incredible Game Categories plugin has been released!

---Quote---
This plugin allows you to categorize your games/homebrew. It comes with two modes, a mode which makes a context menu pop up each time you open your Game Menu and lets you choose the category, and a mode which displays multiple memory stick icons, one for each category.

- UTF-8 support was not correctly implemented for language files, fixed.
- Improved Context Menu Mode, now shows a larger number of items instead of only four.
- Added ability to completely hide uncategorized even if there are files floating around (see readme for instructions).
- Tried to fix a rather strange crash that occured in all sorts of instances.

ZiNgA BuRgA has released Rcomage v1.0.0
Here is what he wrote:

Firstly I apologize for taking so long to get this out. I know some of you may have seen some themes created using this tool for quite a while; I originally had planned to release this months ago, however I got hit with more than expected workload this semester and had really little time to actually work on this.
I had some free time recently, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to try to push out a release. Unfortunately it lacks many things I wanted to have in a public release, but I guess that doesn't matter too much, maybe...

Anyway, since this is a bit of a rushed release, there's a number of "suboptimal" things done here, such as me not really checking stuff (so if you find issues, please report so I can fix :P). Sanity checking in the code really sucks, so it should be easy to stuff up the program too, but please still report these so that I know where to prioritise checks xD.

Until I get MinGW working, this app requires MS's lovely Visual C++ 2008 SP1 runtime, available here: Download details: Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A5C84275-3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2)
(when the source code is released after I clean stuff up, the CLI should also compile on Linux)

*About*
Rcomage is a general RCO manipulation/creation tool, which I hope, will replace RCO Editor (and potentially rcotool in the future).
It's a CLI (command-line interface) however I've provided a simple Windows GUI to save you from remembering commands (though you may need to trawl through an XML file).

It currently only has two main functions - "dump" (dumps contents of an RCO) and "compile" (compiles an RCO from a dump).
For modifying an RCO, you would dump it, modify the dump, then compile it.
A dump will consist of an XML file, which contains all the metadata of the RCO (basically, it's structure) as well as various resources, such as images, sounds etc.

*How to use*
Well, as mentioned above, basically dump and compile is the only thing you can do.
As for information on the XML structure, I don't really have the time to write a good guide, so I guess you'll probably just dump various RCOs to get an idea of how it works. (I'd be willing to assist if someone would write a guide for me :P)
A quick idea of the structure is shown in the readme.

!! I strongly suggest that you don't use Notepad to edit the XML files. Suggested applications include Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/) and Notepad2 (http://www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html) (or your favourite text editor; most should overcome the deficiencies of Notepad).

*Notes*
Because I was silly when writing RCO Editor, it doesn't put in adler32 checksums for compressed images, etc, and thus, anything modified with it will generate a warning in Rcomage. Otherwise, should work fine.
Also, Sony's GimConv, which is used to convert GIM images, is a little slow, so if you choose to perform the conversion (affects both dumping and compiling), expect to wait some time...

*Unknown values*
If you go through dumped XML structures, you may notice a number of "unknown" labels for various objects (and some anim entries). Finding out what these values do is, unfortunately, a little time consuming and I don't really have that much time to test what each thing does. It would be great if people would volunteer to play around with these values to see what effect they have, and I can add the definitions to Rcomage. (thanks in advance :) )

*Credits*
- highboy for his WAV <-> VAG conversion sample code
- Z33 for sample GIM handling code and his various RCO tools as well as guides/investigations on various file formats
- creators of 7-zip for their awesome implementation of deflate
- supporting libraries: libxml2, iconv and zlib
- alpha testers, for discovering some issues and supporting theme development
- everyone else supporting PSP customisation and homebrew scene (too numerous to name)
- anyone I forgot to mention

Just a day after the release of 5.50GEN-D, the team has already released a new revision, 5.50GEN-D2!

5.50GEN-D was supposed to fix the bugs found in 5.50GEN-C, but I suppose the team wants the firmware to be flawless, hence why this upgrade is to fix some bugs.

Changes in 5.50GEN-D2:

• Evangelion Anti CFW patch Fix
• Fix Wlan TKIP in game loop : PES 2009 , Fifa , Motorstorm , GTA CW, ect.
• Fix Video Output With 5.5X and 6.X Games like GTA: Chinatowns War
• Fixed recovery menu with make Pandora and make battery normal
• Removed splash screen

Installation note: You have to be on 5.50GEN-D to upgrade.
