hi guys i have this question what type, kind or models of ps3 play ps2 and psx games i want to buy the newest one because i have the motor storm edition so i dont know whats better thks
The very first ones that came out were the ones that were able to play PS2 games not sure about ps1, but I do know they played ps2 games. but the newer playstation 3's don't. So I'm guessing it'll be kinda hard to find one of the old ones, and if you do you're super lucky.
The original launch 60gb and 20gb models could play PS2 games. Then the old 80gb (MGS4 bundle ones) could also play PS2 games through emulation, but now those 80gb models don't exist and don't come with backwards compatibility.
Just to clarify though, all PS3 models can play PS1 games no matter what. Also, just recently it's been discovered that Sony has filed a patent which would allow all PS3's to emulate PS2 discs through the cell processors. Kotaku - Sony Patents Method To Emulate PS2 On PS3 - PS3
if you really want one that can play ps2, i would go on amazon or ebay, and see if you can find a 60gb model....
i have the 80gb MGS4 PS3, but i wouldn't suggest that for all ps2 games, because it is kinda laggy in some games since its only emulation, not the real ps2 processor...
i don't know if you'll be able to find a 60gb or not though, i couldn't... good luck
i have the 80gb motorstorm bundle too, and it plays ps2 games no prob. The older PS3's are so much better than the new one's because they have 4 usb ports (the new ones only have 2), a flash card reader, and a chrome finish (the new ones are a matte silver plastic). As far as hard drive space is concerned that can always be changed (I have 500GB in mine). So unless this rumored PS3 Slim brings something new to the table (liquid cooling, support for Mac OS as a secondary operating system, support for all video/audio/picture format's lol) i'd stick with the motorstorm PS3.
