Default 5.00 m33-6 how to: play 5.50 FW requiring games

okay guys umm first off nice to say my PSP works after a year,
so I came back on this site to see whats going on ...
then I noticed the problem with FW 5.50 ...
I knew there was a work around for this so I went out and found one that seems to work, I found it earlier today, this original guide was written by Journeys end on the Pak gamers forum, I take no credit for this idea, but it was quite confusing, so I rewrote it to be more helpful.

first off as I stated my PSP is on the verge or repair, so I cannot confirm this, I'm hoping someone else can. And if this works, can someone post it in the news section so everyone else can benefit?

now a warning to all new PSP users, this will access your Flash 0, which I can potentially be dangerous if you do not act cautiously, and I recommend you to back it up before trying this, again for my past experience.

so on to the guide:

this guide will allow you to spoof your FW to 5.50 so that you can play games that require you to be on set firmware.

1. make sure you are on CFW 5.00 m33-6 THIS IS CRUCIAL from what I have read.

2. Boot your PSP into the recovery menu, which can be done by holding R as it starts up.

3. go into the config menu from there

4. change the XMB USB device to f0 by clicking X on this option continually till it shows up.

5. scroll down to the use version.txt option, and enable it, again by hitting X.

6. go to back, and hit X to exit, then exit the recovery menu from there.

7. now USB connect your PSP to the computer, and go into VSH/etc/version.txt

8. now change this files settings to no longer be read only, by right clicking then going into properties. something along these lines should show up when the file is opened:
Quote:
release:5.00:
build:2740,0,3,1,0:builder@vsh-build6
system:46876@release_500,0×05000010:
vsh6264@release_500,v46652@release_5…
target:1:WorldWide
9. this text we will now alter, change release:5.00 to release:5.50 and all release_500 to release_550

10. exit USB mode, re-enter the recovery menu, and change the USB device back to the memory stick, but leave the version.txt enabled.

11. you've just spoofed your FW

Hope this guide works, if someone can test this out, and post the results, it would be a great help, again this is not tested by me for obvious reasons. Good luck to all who try, please post your results and since its been a long time since Ive been here, if someone can update me on whats been going on, that would be much appreciated.

uhhh man that sucks ...
well I think that might be a reference to spoofing the version your PSP displays?
Cause this does not change that, this changes what the ISO/CSO would THINK your PSP is, instead of what you can read.

this has already been confirmed to not work on 5.00M33-6
there's already a workaround to run 5.50+ required games
here's a link: http://www.consolespot.net/forums/general-psp-discussion/26817-release-eboot-bin-patcher-v1-0-a.html

or much easier update to 5.50 GEN-D2 and you wouldn't need to patch your games

does this FW run homebrew properly?
i heard there are some bugs with that,
and what about the updating issue,
i also read that sometimes it bricks during updates,
like you have to turn all themes off (is there anything else you need to turn off im missing?)

to be brick-safe, update from your current FW to GEN-B2 to GEN-D to GEN-D2
