I have about 1.6gbs of music I want to send my friend. I remember extracting a 729mb file from a 209mb 7z file. I this the best compression file type? If so, how do I compress my music for this? What settings should I apply(Archive format, Compression level, Compression method, Dictionary size, Word size, Solid Block size, etc.)? If you help, thanks!
I've also heard about compressing mp3 files. Is this possible? Does it distort the sound quality?

7zip works perfectly fine for me. Just use the preset "ultra" if you are very concerned about file size. In terms of .mp3 compression you could convert them either to a lower bitrate or codec at the cost of quality. I prefer FLAC myself. Nothing like Sgt Peppers at 720 kbps.
