yes... the older models of the PS3 that has PS2 Backwards Capability (i think it's called Emotion Engine. not sure) is much much more expensive. because they stopped manufacturing them a long time ago to reduce the prices. and now, those PS3s are much much more expensive compared before because of the fact that it's rare.

wow thats a load of crap the 60gb isn't that rare true it does cost alot on ebay but i just got of craigslist and found a couple for around 300 i wouldn't suggest getting i own a 60gb and a 80gb w/o BC and let me tell you a little known fact the 60gb and 80gb with BC overheat and the wifi fails. keep the ps2 and buy a new ps3.

Well, I have had my 60GB PS3 for over a year and a half and it has never overheated, nor has the WiFi ever failed.
Maybe you should put your PS3 in a well ventilated area.
Anyways, the 20GB, 60GB and 80GB (older models) have backward compatibility.
The later 80GBs (with 2 USBs) do not have backward compatibility.
If you want backward compatibility I suggest you look on eBay for the 60GB or the 80GB.
If you're lucky, your local Gamestop or EBGames might have a refurbished 80GB or 60GB in stock.

i have a ps3 60gb with BC and it has never overheated. the wifi i find amazing because honestly my ps3 is on the verge of being out of my routers range (according to the router specs and my ipod and psp wifi readings) yet i have never lagged out of a game nor even waited a long time for a webpage or content to load. from my experience its amazing and prob worth the extra money

yup same over here never happened to me...i bought it off my friend 60GB, 6 games, 2 controls, HDMI cable, and a blue tooth for $450.00...i love it
i completely forgot to mention the bluetooth, which i find awesome.
i hav an xbox360 and i had always played xbox360 with xbox live and had to buy their headsets and basically i feel like i wasted my money on both because ps3 has free online play and you can use any bluetooth headset, they arent trying to make a quick buck around every corner, like microsoft

What I was trying to say is that I own 2 ps3's and when I play the 60gb for an extended period of time the whole room gets hot and the ps3 is really hot to the touch and te next day I have issues with the wifi but with the 80gb w/ 2 usb ports it always remains cool even if I've been playing all day non-stop and the wifi never gives me troubles like it does on the 60gb.you wouldn't really get it unless you ownwed both model because when I only owned the 60gb I thought that all ps3's got hot like that. P.S I do put my ps3 in a well ventailated area the only thing that helps the 60gb is my nyko intercooler.

Well, there's your problem.
Don't buy a intercooler for your PS3.
Most PS3 owners don't recommend getting a intercooler.

I can dig up more storys about intercoolers, and about how bad they are.
In short, the PS3's fan was built to be able to handle the heat.
Another reason why you're saying the 80GB PS3 runs cooler, is mainly because the 60GB has a 90nm chip, and the 80GB with no BC has a 65nm chip, meaning it runs cooler, uses less power, and costs less to produce.

ok then people should buy newer ps3's because they run cooler and use less power. also i kinda had doubts about the intercooler from the beginning so i might have to take it off. although the one i have was a earlier model than the ones on the market now and not only pushes air in the ps3 but also blows air out the back. but i've heard that the intercooler blows dust in the ps3. can anyone back this up?
