This is going to be a short review on: Virtua Tennis 3 (PSP) I will look at different aspects of the game including gameplay, controls, graphics etc.
1. Game Overview - Virtua Tennis for the PSP is much like the version for the PS3 but without the HD graphics. The game is not just a bog standard tennis game it has numerous modes that keep the game playable for a long time including a fun set of mini games. The main mode of the game is the 'World Tour', this is where you start your career at seed 300 and you have to work your way upto world champion by winning tournements. There are 4 levels of tournement and you can only enter some if you are of a high enough rank. You improve your stats by playing in the mini games which generally make you a better player. The Multiplayer mode is great if you have a friend who has the game as you can compete in a standard game of tennis or play againts them in mini games. However the game sharing feature is lacking so they would need to buy the game to play with you.
2. Graphics - The graphics in the game are nothing compared to the graphics on the PS3 however are still good for a handheld console. The players look like they should however not a photo like as the PS3. There is no points in the game where the graphics have let me down, all of the game has very smooth edges and is generally very colourful.
The screenshots below allow you to have your own point of view
3. Controls - The controls in Virtua Tennis will not let you down, they are so simplistic even a moose could use them. X, Square, O and Triangle are used for shot selection. And the d-pad or analog stick to move, that is all there is to it. L and R are really unused in the game apart from doubles matches where it is then used to give the COM instructions.
4. Gameplay - The overall gameplay of the game is good, it runs very smooth, and can have a long lifespan depending on how long it takes you to finish World Tour mode. The amount of fun you can have with this game is brilliant.
PS3 vs. PSP Version - Even though the PS3 version has better graphics it is not portable and this is the kind of game that it best played on a handheld console. Buy the PSP version.
