the only reason why HellCat's Recovery Flasher works, is cuz its an EBOOT. it runs off the memstick and thats why that works. and its good for ppl with unhacked hackable Phats/Slims which are on OFWs 5.01, 5.02 and 5.03, and they don't have a Pandora Battery and MMS. now they can install CFW that way.

But as for the Slims with MoBo Ta-088v3 and PSP-3000s, they wont accept the CFW files, which is why they still remain unhackable, besides the ChickHEN Exploit.

If you try and install a CFW on Slims with MoBo Ta-088v3 and PSP-3000s, it will result in a brick. and there is no way to unbrick Slims with MoBo Ta-088v3 and PSP-3000s.
I understand the recovery flasher works through the XMB eboot.

I was wondering what was stopping people from just flashing CFW onto v3's and 3k psps, so the CPU checks for cfw files? I thought it only checked the pandora and stopped jigkick. So were still stuck on those psps

Do we know why they don't accept CFW files? I've always known they can't be hacked but never been sure on the reason why.

Default Using hellcats flasher 1.60 on OFW 1.50

Hi,
I was going through some of the instructions, and they all tell me that I must upgrade to OFW 5.03 first, then use ChickHEN to enable unsigned homebrew, and then check my mobo to make sure it is compatible, and lastly run hellcats flasher using OFW 5.00 in place along with Dark Alex 5.00 M33-6 in order to go up to CFW 5.00.

Since I am running OFW 1.50 on PSP Classic (Fat) and since it is the same way since the day I bought it without any modifications, can't I just run hellcats straight off 1.50 since it can actually run homebrew?

Hellcats folder comes with
%__SCE__rflash
__SCE__rflash

But I don't want to mess up anything, I just assume above is hellcats tool that is coded for OFW 1.50. In that case, do I still put OFW 5.00 and CFW 5.00 M33-6 in the Recovery folder, or in the %__SCE__rflash folder?

Thanks in advance!

wow you are one of the very few people still on 1.50 OFW! that is good though. and yes you can use Hellcat's Recovery Flasher v1.60 on 1.50 OFW using the two folders that you mentioned before.

just put the 500.PBP in the root of the memory stick. you may need to download the 500.PBP seperately, it does not come with Reocvery Flasher.

hope this helped.

Thank you so much for your reply. Yeah, I never touched my PSP, worrying I may lose my emulators.
There is one question, though: While I understand I have to put 500.PBP in the root of the MS, do I still need to get 5.00 M33-6 and put it in the MS as well? I don't see the custom firmware eboot anywhere in the extracted folder. The EBOOT's in the downloaded RAR archive are all less than 2MB.

Unless Hellcat's flasher actually modifies the 500.PBP using the information in those small eboots.

The only reason I want to do this is to be able to play my new UMD games (that require newer FW) and still be able to run NES/SNES emulators . But I hear that the older version emulators won't run in 5.00. Where can I download the gpSP for FW 5.00?

Thanks again.
