a softmod lets you mod without taking anything apart for example the softmod for regular xbox is simply copied onto a memory card copied onto the xbox and bam reads burned disks and u can run homebrew i just dont understand why it hasnt been done yet for 360 obviously a bit more secure
The reason it hasn't been done for 360 is yes it is more secure, and according to the 360-guru on another site I belong to the reason it's hacked at all was merely by fluke. We just got lucky that M$ was stupid enough to let us simply flash firmware from our PCs onto the 360 DVD-drive.
The only reason the Xbox original was able to be softmodded was because the games used to softmod the Xbox contained code from linux, so the save was hacked to run a program embedded in the save.
On the Xbox 360 tho they made it more secure but they had a chip on the 360 DVD drive that made sure to check the disc was an official microsoft DVD so all the Xbox 360 patch thing does is remove the check much like what the CFW does for the PSP in a way.
