Left 4 Dead 2 already huh. I would rather hear news of them releasing those new DLC campaigns for the first L4D they said they were going to release a while back. The first game was great but the problem was a lackluster 4 levels that get stale a little to quick for my taste and the 59.99. price tag. If they don't come out with more maps for the first game like the said and instead release L4D2 to make more money of another weak product than i won't buy this game. This game better at least have 12 campaigns or more or I think many people will be turned away this time around. L4D2 seems like a quick way to sidestep any updates on Left4Dead one and make a quick buck on a sequel of the same caliber as the first.
Yes they literally "left it for dead" ...bad pun but it had to be made. Another issue with the game is that it's identical to the first which kind of makes you think this is 1.2 instead of a 2. I don't have the system to play either game but I have played it before, I suppose for someone like me it won't be an issue if you didn't own it before but for those hard core fans this fails extremely. Well also the sequel was noted to be a "full priced" sequel, I'm not too sure what that means when it comes to 360 games but if it's an issue enough to get people ticked off then it has to be a pretty penny. Ah but this isn't the first time a sequel was made to take the heat of the original. But still it would be nice if promises were kept when it came to games like this, I mean it's not like they had some trouble getting money for the missing content. Oh well, what are you going to do? On the plus side if sales go down too much on the game then maybe they'll think of addressing the first one properly.
Honestly...I feel ripped and disappointed. On another forum we've made a concise list of why all the Steam PC Users are currently disappointed about:
-Significant content for L4D1 was promised, and never delivered
-Valve put little faith in L4D1 since they almost certainly started working on L4D2 right after release
-The fact that L4D2 is nearly identical to L4D1 will decimate the community for both games
-The announced date is not nearly enough time to polish content or make significant gameplay changes
-The new character designs seem bland and unappealing so far
L4D2 is too colourful to fit in with L4D1's visual aesthetic
-The fiddle-based horde music is extremely disliked, though the differently orchestrated music is otherwise welcome
-L4D2's release will result in a drop in quality and frequency for L4D1 content, even compared to before
-The community has lost faith in Valve's former reputation for commitment to their games post-release
I'm not trying to debate; just voicing my opinion. I'm just hoping that they -really- aren't seriously thinking about charging full retail price for this...because many people and I aren't very impressed with the new gameplay.
I'm not totally asking for a free DLC either; I'm just a bit sad that I bought L4D for 49.99 with the promise of new content being released for it just like TF2. Then they do this crap -.-
I feel exactly the same way, so far what have we seen updated in L4D?
- A new gamemode which uses existing maps and IMO should have been added from the start.
- No new weapons/upgrades/maps etc. (Disregarding the sucky lighthouse map which a community member could have made, had ValvE not taken 8 months to release the SDK!)
- A poorly implemenred server browser, a server browser should be the one of the things you get right if you're releasing a PC game.
- Price tag of £26.99 (God knows what I paid on release)
Comparing that to TF2 updates of which I cannot list simply because there have been so many, which holds a price tag of £13.99 (£6.99 on Class-update weekends). The sheer effort ValvE put into TF2 and they way they made it a community game with class updates, community maps, new gamemodes etc. even subtle changes such as changing weapon damage at different range shows that they listened to the community. Have we seen any such updates for L4D coming upto a year down the line...NOPE!

I even do recall during an interview with Gabe he stated that they started development on Left 4 Dead 2 right after they released Left 4 Dead. If this is the real case I honestly see that Valve did not have a lot of support for L4D upon release. Pretty sad it was a great title, but not worth its price at $60. No game that's multiplayer only(Despite the useless singleplayer) should be $60. After you play the same campaigns continually over time you really get bored of it. L4D really did not have all that much replay value due to Valves lack of support. My question is will they follow the same path as Left 4 Dead 2?
