With the release of recent, new PSP games, Sony has made it a requirement that you be on firmware 5.55 for most of these games. And since the latest custom firmware we have to our disposal is 5.50 GEN, we can't really play these new titles without losing our custom firmware abilities.
Fear no more though, as a dev named Yoshihiro has made a program that allows us to use said games without the need of firmware 5.55 installed on your PSP and that program is Game Decrypter.
To use the utility you must of course own an original copy of the game, the latest build of the program UMDGen, and additionally have custom firmware 5.50 GEN installed on your PSP. Here are the instructions to get your games up and running, provided with the readme file for the program:
Although no such games exist yet, the program is said to also work for those requiring firmware 6.00. As well, Game Decrypter is said to work for PSP 3000s using 5.03 GEN.
This should allow for those of you who have purchased games or will purchase games soon -- such as Gran Turismo, coming out this Thursday -- that require 5.55 to run, to play those titles. The download for the program can be found below in the downloads section.
(Note: No links to illegal pirated downloads to games will be allowed on our forums. Please do not, I repeat DO NOT, post such things as it may lead to you being banned.)
- Added compression and decompression RCO functions
- Support drag and drop a folder to create CTF
- Support identification and select ctf version
- Fix some bug
Note:
If the package or packaging CTF get error please close RCO compression, decompression function and try again.

Ever been in the situation where you've got a CTF and a single file in it that needs changing, only to have to go through the annoying process of decompiling then recompiling the entire CTF? Well never fear, for CTF Archiver is here! Now you can instantly "open" a CTF and edit its contents right from inside the CTF itself!
"But Xander, I'm still going to have to open the program every time and select the CTF that I want to edit."
Oh ho! Is that so? I don't believe it is. CTF Archiver integrates itself with Windows to let you simply double click on a CTF to open it. Not only that, but it integrates multiple XMB tools into Windows. Right click on a PRX quickly scramble/descramble it. Double click on an RCO to open it.
"So what does this CTF Archiver look like?"
I'm glad you asked. Take a look:
Now, a few things before you download it. CTF Archiver is the result of ThemeXtra, which is sadly still in the works. This program's original title was "DTA Archiver", reflecting the ThemeXtra file format. The long road I've been down with Davee and Bubbletune, following ThemeXtra's progress, doesn't appear to have an end. So I decided that I should just release this with support for CTFs instead of DTAs. As a result, you'll see the word "DTA" a lot. Just pretend it says CTF or simply isn't there at all. Maybe one day you'll get to see the true wonders of TX and the DTA format. But for now, enjoy this release.
Note: The installer is bundled with the required 4.01, 5.00, and 5.50 PRXs. You'll need to get the PRXs yourself with the binary download. And no, the "Password" tab does nothing. It was designed for the DTA format, which supports passwords.
Please report any bugs or suggestions you may have for future versions. Read more »
Ever wanted PlayStation Home on your PSP? Well if you ever did, today is your lucky day. Sony has announced that they will be introducing a new PSP service that lets you create custom 3D avatars as well as "my room" spaces with blogs, albums, and group gatherings with chat support.
Although not called PlayStation Home like most would think, instead this new service will be called PlayStation R∞M (and no that isn't a typo it will have the infinity symbol in place of the "oo"). You will be able to access this new feature directly from your XMB under the PlayStation Network category. As you might have already figured out this will let you invite friends over to your room, and have a nice friendly conversation over a cup of tea the same way you would do on Home. You could be expecting this new feature on a PSP near you this winter in an upcoming firmware update.
Total_Noob is back again, now with some requests fulfilled!
Most notably random colors, meaning each time you boot the psp it will pick a random month from 01-30! Great for those high res wallpaper themes ;)
Also you can customize the colors to your likings via a text file rather than hex editing :D
GameSpot's Guy Cocker and Luke Anderson recently had the chance to unbox Sony's latest PSP iteration, the PSP Go. The video below gives a basic look at the new PSP Go as one would expect, but something new and unexpected is included in the video, a look at one of the PSP Go's unknown features.
And that feature is a save state option, which allows you to pause the game wherever you are in it, then exit the game to the XMB, do whatever you wish (be it watch a video or browse the web), and then return safely back to your game without losing your progress. The option is certainly great for games that don't allow you to save your game whenever you want.
Anyway, check out the video below for the unboxing and a look at the PSP Go's new save state feature. The PSP Go is set to release next month on October 1.
Not much new compared to the rumors, on a side note Magixien of PSPGen has started the decryption process of the firmware and has found a new popsloader specific to the pspgo!
The new colors tempted me to update, so I figured I'd take some pictures of it.
With that said, enjoy. Was kinda annoying to resize and upload all, lol.
Last week in a blog post, on the European PlayStation blog, for the release of a European Holy Invasion Of Privacy Badman demo, it was revealed by Allison Walter, of NIS America, that we would be seeing the 6.00 firmware update on September 10.
Due to a mix-up, the demo was released early and required you to have firmware 5.55, which wasn't and still isn't available to anyone, so to solve the problem, Allison said that Sony would roll out firmware update 6.00 and re-release the demo on Sept. 10th.
Tomorrow's that day and just today, Dutch site PS3-SENSE.nl, revealed an early look at the new firmware update's changelog. According to the changelog, support for music playlists will be added, more color backgrounds under theme options, and the PSP Go! will be able to connect to the internet while being anywhere via Bluetooth, using cellphones as a modem-like set-up.
Below you can see the full changelog. Take it with a grain of salt, as we can only classify this as rumor for the time being until tomorrow, when the new firmware update drops.
What do you say, fake or real? Satisfying or a letdown? Tell us what you think of this supposed changelog.
