Thanks to a Japanese programmer, he/she has coded a working NES emulator for the PlayStation 3 using the built in Blu-Ray BD-J. Although not much information is known on the creator of the emulator, the app is promising.
Days later the emulator was updated. Changes in the update were unnoticeable but the dev once again added their words:
The controls are simple; use either the left analog or the d-pad. The square button for "B" and the x button for "A". For start and select, simply press triangle to bring up the PS3's video options menu and then press 1 for select and 2 for the start button. Pressing 3 will return you to the rom-list selection menu and 4 will toggle between different frameskip options.
To install first copy your NES roms into the folder named "Roms" then simply copy the AVCHD folder into the root of a storage device, like a memory stick(PSP) or a USB stick. Then go over to the video section on your XMB and press X on the said device. Then once inside you'll see what appears to be a video called "AVCHD". Run it and there you go.
Sloppy translations aside, this application works really great and has been tested by yours truly. Although the emulator does not have working sound for games and isn't in fullscreen display, its a great sign of the PS3 homebrew scene expanding. Hopefully in the future we can see an update to this emulator with working sound and fullscreen capability. The download link is below which includes the newest version of the emulator, enjoy!
Please note that all roms may not work. Also be aware that posting links to roms/rom-related sites on the ConsoleSpot forums is NOT allowed. Please use Google for such needs. :D
Well, everyone seems to be getting in on the 80GB PS3's (SKU's), including Australia. The new 80GB PS3 model will be shipped to Australia and it will come with a DualShock 3 controller. It will feature double the storage at no addtional cost. This new 80GB PS3 model will replace the current 40GB model in Australia and will arrive on Australian store shelves on August 28 for $699. This new "80GB core pack" will also be replacing 40GB PS3 models in North America this September and in Europe on August 27th. Just a reminder, these new 80GB models have the same functionality as the 40GB models -- as in no memory card readers, no PS2 backwards compatibility and it only has 2 USB slots.
German Hacker, StreetSkaterFU, has succeeded in loading back-ups in the Playstation 3. He has in a video(video is below), that the Warhawk Disc is inserted in the PlayStation 3, and is loaded. The game Warhawk is not installed on the PS3 yet, but once the game started nothing will happen and you will see only see the XMB. Then Warhawk is suddenly loaded. If you don't believe this video well Alek, and mathieulh said it's real:
It seems that Famitsu has revealed the secret password for Metal Gear Solid 4 that will allow you to obtain Altair's costume from Assassin's Creed without the assassin's emblem. To obtain it, go to the password section and enter in aottrykmyn. Once this password is activated, you can jump into Altair’s costume from the camouflage menu after you get the Metal Gear Mk. II. Another password you can enter is jmsotsynrn. Once you enter that, you will be able to yield the Type 17 pistol. Have fun with these new items!
Today, EA announced that the smash-em-up driving game Burnout Paradise will be available to download from PSN for $29.99 this Fall. That's pretty much all of the details available right now. No one knows the exact date for this game to be available, but we all know that it's sometime in Fall. So is this going to be a new trend for buying games then downloading them off of PSN? Only time will tell as we wait for EA to make an announcement for available games on PSN.
Sony has recently announced that PlayTV, a tuner for the Playstation 3 is hitting stores September 19th, in the UK. The features of this TV tuner compared to normal TV is basically pausing, recording, scheduling, that kinda stuff. There are two tuners for the PlayTV meaning you can record a channel, watch another channel and apparently play games at the same time! You can also watch TV with Remote Play on the PSP, but can't transfer them directly.
Unfortunately, the PlayTV tuner comes at a rather hefty price, 70 Pounds.($131). Sony will be explaining more at the Leipzig Game Convention next week.
Well, v1.4 was released a month ago and now Warhawk game director Dyan Jobe announced on the PlayStation Blog that v1.5 is scheduled to be released on August 27th. He also explained to us all the details about v1.5 which will bring new trophies. If you want to take a look at the trophies that were announced last week, visit PS3Fanboy. This new update will also release in Europe on the same day as the US.
Well, to those UK PS3 owners who are waiting for the 80GB PS3, it has been announced by E3 that the 80GB PlayStation 3 will be released in UK on August 29, 2008. There is still no word on the release date for Europe, but Europe's release date will presumably be the same as UK's release date. There are some features the 80GB model doesn't have. The 80 GB doesn't feature the memory stick card readers, SACD playback, backwards compatibility with PS2 games and Ethernet cable. It also doesn't have 4 USB ports like the 40 GB. Instead it has 2 USB ports. The 80 GB is also being bundled up with the new DualShock 3 controller, so if you're considering buying yourself a PS3, then hold out a little longer until a great deal comes out.

You might have heard of the free DLC it had awhile back, but this time it's trophies. These new trophies and the new "Amusement Park" DLC pack will be added to the game on September 4th. There are a total of 9 new trophies that will be added to this game next month. To achieve all the trophies, you have to start over again. Do you want to have access to the new Home Beta? Well, here's what you do. Download the PlayStation Home theme from the PlayStation Store later today and you'll be submitting your username into a drawing for access, but this won't be a random drawing. You'll have a good chance of getting picked if you're one of the most active users in the PlayStation Network. Japan did something similar to this last week. If you live in Europe, the PlayStation Community will be contacting you via e-mail shortly.
Well, many PS3 users are pre-ordering the exclusive title Little Big Planet but sadly not everyone is glad about this game. Recently, Chuck Lacson has stated on a blog post that due to possible copyright issues the only way you can import custom photos, say a picture of you and your family, will have to be taken using a PlayStation Eye Toy. Due to this recent report, he goes on to say that customizing your Sackboy will be limited but still enjoyable. You can customize your Sackboy from many different ways such as for example wear a costume, slap on stickers, and adding images directly from PlayStation Eye Toy. Though this limits direct texturing for users you still get the benefit of designing your character.
