Microsoft revealed today that it will have shipped over 10 million consoles to retailers “shortly.” This milestone comes exactly 3 months after Sony first revealed it shipped 10 million PS4s. Despite the PS4’s outselling the Xbox One for around nine months, Microsoft hits that Sony’s winning streak may be coming to an end soon. “As we head into the busy holiday season, Xbox One led generation 8 consoles sales in the US for the past two weeks,” says Microsoft’s devices and studios’ chief Yusuf Mehdi. Granted, the victory flag can’t be flown yet, but if the software lineup and holiday price points are anything to consider (pro-tip: they are) then Microsoft is clearly aiming to be Number One this holiday season. Mehdi acknowledges the success of the new price point, stating that “sales have skyrocketed since the new price took effect” earlier this month. “Compared to the previous week, Xbox One sales in the US have more than tripled.” Between the existing bundles and championed software lineup, Microsoft finds themselves in a very good position. And while it’s still behind Sony’s PS4 in terms of total units sold, selling over 10 million units in its first year of release is nothing short of impressive, and a milestone that any product manufacturer should be proud of.
